I have been up to Lake Burwain this afternoon, and a water sample was taken, which clearly shows a high-level spread and bloom of green algae due to the hot weather.
Due to the spreading and blooming of the green algae in Lake Burwain. I have decided to cancel all swimming in Lake Burwain, run by Pendle Triathlon Club, until further notice. Booking will be kept open for next week's session, and we will review it next Wednesday afternoon.
The water quality is poor, caused by the green algae and swimming in Burwain may cause gastroenteritis symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and headaches.
Toxins in the water can also affect the liver and the nervous system.
Pendle Triathlon Club, which operates Swim Lake Burwain, is not responsible for people developing symptoms whilst swimming in Lake Burwain when the lake is closed due to waterborne green algae.
We will transfer all bookings from this week to next week. If you can't make it or would prefer a refund, please reply to this email and we will arrange a refund.
